Two-Step Problems: Earn and Share
Solve problems that require adding then dividing.
🎯 What You'll Learn
You will solve two-step problems where you first add amounts together, then divide to share equally.
🏪 Market Story
Tunde and Chidi wash cars together on Saturday. Tunde earns ₦80 and Chidi earns ₦70. They decide to combine their money and split it equally. How much does each get?
📝 Let's Learn
Step 1: Combine the earnings: ₦80 + ₦70 = ₦150.
Step 2: Divide equally: ₦150 ÷ 2 = ₦75 each.
Example 1: Three friends earn ₦60, ₦45, and ₦75 doing chores. They share equally. Step 1: ₦60 + ₦45 + ₦75 = ₦180. Step 2: ₦180 ÷ 3 = ₦60 each.
Example 2: Amina and Bola sell 16 and 24 mangoes. They share the total equally. Step 1: 16 + 24 = 40. Step 2: 40 ÷ 2 = 20 mangoes each.
Example 3: 4 students collect ₦25 each for a group project. They buy materials for ₦60 and split the remainder. Step 1: Total collected: 4 × ₦25 = ₦100. After spending: ₦100 − ₦60 = ₦40. Step 2: ₦40 ÷ 4 = ₦10 each gets back.

💡 Remember
When you need to combine and then share, first add everything together, then divide by the number of people. Two steps, two operations!
