🎯 What You'll Learn

You will practise shopping with a budget, deciding what you can afford and calculating totals and change.

🏪 Market Story

Bola has ₦500 to buy food for the week. She needs to be smart about her spending. Here are the market prices:

  • Rice (bag): ₦200
  • Beans: ₦100
  • Garri: ₦80
  • Tomatoes (pile): ₦50
  • Peppers (pile): ₦30
  • Oil: ₦120
  • Onions: ₦40

📝 Let's Learn

Bola makes a list: rice, beans, tomatoes, peppers, and oil.

Step 1 — Add up the total: ₦200 + ₦100 + ₦50 + ₦30 + ₦120 = ₦500. Exactly her budget!

But wait — can she also get onions (₦40)? ₦500 + ₦40 = ₦540. That's more than ₦500. She can't afford onions too.

What if she drops the beans? ₦500 − ₦100 = ₦400. Now she has ₦100 left, enough for garri (₦80) and onions (₦40) — total: ₦400 + ₦80 + ₦40 = ₦520. Still too much by ₦20!

Final plan: Rice (₦200) + Garri (₦80) + Tomatoes (₦50) + Peppers (₦30) + Oil (₦120) + Onions (₦40) = ₦520. Over budget by ₦20. She removes onions: ₦480. Change: ₦500 − ₦480 = ₦20 left.

  2. ₦50 + ₦30 + ₦120 = ₦200. Yes! Exactly ₦200. She can afford it with ₦0 left.

💡 Remember

Shopping with a budget means adding up costs and checking they don't exceed your money. Subtract the total from your budget to find what's left. Planning ahead saves you from running out of money!
