🏪 Market Story
Funke opens her piggy bank. Coins fall out everywhere! She sees some big coins, some small coins. Her older brother Chidi says, "Let me help you sort them. These are ₦5 coins, these are ₦10 coins, these are ₦20 coins, and this big one is ₦50." Funke wants to know: how much money does she have?
📝 Let's Learn
Nigeria has different coins worth different amounts:
- ₦5 coin — the smallest value coin
- ₦10 coin — worth two ₦5 coins
- ₦20 coin — worth four ₦5 coins
- ₦50 coin — worth ten ₦5 coins
Example 1: Funke has 3 coins of ₦10. She counts: ₦10, ₦20, ₦30. She has ₦30.
Example 2: Bola has 2 coins of ₦20 and 1 coin of ₦5. She counts the ₦20 coins first: ₦20, ₦40. Then adds the ₦5: ₦45. She has ₦45.
Example 3: Tunde has 1 coin of ₦50 and 2 coins of ₦10. He counts: ₦50... then ₦60, ₦70. He has ₦70.
Tip: Always count the biggest coins first, then the smaller ones!
