🎯 What You'll Learn

You will learn to start counting from any number, not just from 1. This skill is very useful when you are adding more items to a group.

🏪 Market Story

Amina is helping her mother count garri in cups. Her mother has already counted 23 cups. A new bag arrives with more garri. Her mother says, "Start counting from 23." Amina continues: "24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32." Now they have 32 cups of garri!

📝 Let's Learn

You don't always have to start counting from 1. If you already know how many you have, just continue from that number. This is called counting on.

Example 1: Start at 15 and count 4 more: 16, 17, 18, 19.

Example 2: Start at 47 and count 5 more: 48, 49, 50, 51, 52. Notice how we crossed over 50!

Example 3: Bola has 56 beads. She gets 6 more. She counts on: 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62. She now has 62 beads.

Tip: When you count on, don't count the starting number. If you start at 15 and count 3 more, say "16, 17, 18" — not "15, 16, 17."
