Reading practice — sound out each word:

Words with 'a' in the middle:

  • cat — "The cat is on the mat."
  • mat — "Sit on the mat."
  • ham — "We eat ham for dinner."
  • cap — "He has a red cap."
  • map — "Look at the map."
  • rat — "A rat ran past!"

Words with 'e' in the middle:

  • hen — "The hen has ten chicks."
  • red — "I like the red dress."
  • ten — "I can count to ten."
  • pen — "Give me a pen."

Words with 'i' in the middle:

  • dim — "The light is dim."
  • hip — "She put her hand on her hip."
  • hit — "Hit the ball!"
