🌟 Let's Start

Not all texts are stories. Some texts teach you real facts about the world. These are called informational texts. Today you will learn real facts about the rainy season in Nigeria.

📚 Informational Text: The Rainy Season

Nigeria has two main seasons: the rainy season and the dry season.

The rainy season in southern Nigeria usually lasts from April to October. In northern Nigeria, it is shorter — from about June to September. During this time, rain falls heavily, sometimes every day.

Rain is very important. It fills the rivers and streams with water. Farmers need rain to grow crops like yam, corn, and cassava. Without rain, the crops would die and there would not be enough food.

But too much rain can cause problems. Heavy rain can cause flooding, where water covers the roads and even enters houses. When it floods, it is hard to go to school or the market.

During the rainy season, many children carry umbrellas to school. Some wear rubber boots to keep their feet dry. The air feels cool and fresh after it rains.

The rainy season is also when mosquitoes come out. Mosquitoes breed in standing water. That is why it is important to cover water containers and sleep under a mosquito net.
