🎯 What You'll Learn

You will learn that division can mean sharing (splitting into equal parts) or grouping (making groups of a certain size).

🏪 Market Story

Bola has 20 groundnuts. She can think about division in two ways:

Sharing: "I want to share with 4 friends. How many does each person get?" 20 ÷ 4 = 5 each.

Grouping: "I want to put 5 groundnuts in each bag. How many bags can I fill?" 20 ÷ 5 = 4 bags.

Both use division, but they ask different questions!

📝 Let's Learn

Division has two meanings:

  • Sharing: "I have 12 items for 3 people. How many does each get?" 12 ÷ 3 = 4.
  • Grouping: "I have 12 items. I put 3 in each group. How many groups?" 12 ÷ 3 = 4.

Both give the same answer! 12 ÷ 3 = 4 either way.

Example 1 (Sharing): ₦24 shared among 6 children. ₦24 ÷ 6 = ₦4 each.

Example 2 (Grouping): 24 eggs, 6 in each carton. 24 ÷ 6 = 4 cartons.

Example 3: Tunde has 30 marbles. He puts 5 in each bag. 30 ÷ 5 = 6 bags.
