📝 Let's Learn
Word problems tell a story with numbers. To solve them:
- Read the problem carefully.
- Find the numbers and what you need to do.
- Solve by adding.
- Check — does the answer make sense?
Example 1: Tunde buys a shirt for ₦85 and trousers for ₦120. How much does he spend?
Numbers: ₦85 and ₦120. Operation: Add. ₦85 + ₦120 = ₦205.
Example 2: Amina buys garri for ₦50, fish for ₦75, and peppers for ₦25. What is the total cost?
Add step by step: ₦50 + ₦75 = ₦125. Then ₦125 + ₦25 = ₦150.
Example 3: A book costs ₦60 and a bag costs ₦150. Chidi buys both. How much does he pay?
₦60 + ₦150 = ₦210.
