🎯 What You'll Learn

You will learn about the hundreds place, so you can understand three-digit numbers like 100, 250, and 500.

🏪 Market Story

Bola's mother gives her ₦500 to buy food at the market. The ₦500 note has three digits. Bola thinks: the 5 is in the hundreds place, which means 5 hundreds, or 500. If she had ₦235, that would be 2 hundreds (200) + 3 tens (30) + 5 ones (5) = 235.

📝 Let's Learn

In a three-digit number like 347:

  • The first digit (3) is in the hundreds place = 300
  • The middle digit (4) is in the tens place = 40
  • The last digit (7) is in the ones place = 7
  • 347 = 300 + 40 + 7

Example 1: 162 = 100 + 60 + 2. The 1 means one hundred, the 6 means sixty, and the 2 means two.

Example 2: 500 = 500 + 0 + 0. There are 5 hundreds, 0 tens, and 0 ones.

Example 3: What number has 4 hundreds, 0 tens, and 8 ones? 400 + 0 + 8 = 408.
