Passage: The Mosquito
Mosquitoes are small insects that can make people sick. They are found in many parts of Nigeria, especially during the rainy season.
Mosquitoes bite people to drink their blood. When a mosquito bites, it can pass a disease called malaria into the person's body. Malaria makes people very sick with fever and body pain.
There are ways to stop mosquitoes from biting you. You can sleep under a mosquito net. You can wear long sleeves and trousers in the evening. You can also remove standing water near your home because mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water.
If someone gets malaria, they must see a doctor quickly. The doctor will give medicine to help them get better. Malaria can be dangerous, but it can be treated if caught early.
