🎯 What You'll Learn
You will learn to use the past tense — talking about things that already happened.
🌟 Let's Start
What did you do yesterday? Maybe you ate food, walked to school, or played with friends. When we talk about things that already happened, we use the past tense. The past tense often adds -ed to the end of a verb.
📚 New Concept
The past tense tells us that something already happened — yesterday, last week, or a long time ago.
Adding -ed:
- walk → walked ("I walked to school yesterday.")
- play → played ("We played football last Saturday.")
- cook → cooked ("Mother cooked rice.")
- wash → washed ("Bola washed her clothes.")
Some verbs are tricky! They do not just add -ed. They change completely:
- eat → ate ("I ate plantain.")
- go → went ("We went to the market.")
- run → ran ("Emeka ran home.")
- see → saw ("I saw a bird.")
- come → came ("My uncle came to visit.")
🎮 Let's Practice
- Change to past tense: "I walk to school." (yesterday)
- Change to past tense: "She eats rice." (yesterday)
- Fill in the blank: "Last week, Tunde ___ (go) to Lagos."
