🎯 What You'll Learn

You will learn to put syllables together to make whole words. This is called blending.

🌟 Let's Start

Funke's teacher says word parts slowly: "wa... ter." Funke puts them together and shouts "water!" The teacher says "um... brel... la" and Funke says "umbrella!" Putting word parts together is like solving a puzzle.

📚 New Concept

Blending means putting syllables together to make a word.

Two-part words:

  • sis... ter = sister
  • pen... cil = pencil
  • riv... er = river
  • mon... key = monkey

Three-part words:

  • to... ma... to = tomato
  • hos... pi... tal = hospital
  • beau... ti... ful = beautiful

How to blend: Say the parts slowly, then faster, then quickly as one word. Slow: um... brel... la. Medium: um-brel-la. Fast: umbrella!
