Three Types of Connections

• Text to Self: "This reminds me of when I..."
• Text to Text: "This is like another story I read..."
• Text to World: "This connects to what is happening in..."

Why Connections Help

When you connect what you read to things you already know, you understand and remember it better.

Practice

Read this and make one of each connection:

Adaeze's family moved to a new city. On her first day at her new school, she didn't know anyone. She sat alone at lunch. Then a girl named Fatima came over and said, "Would you like to sit with us?" Adaeze smiled. Maybe this new school wouldn't be so bad after all.
