What is Predicting?

Predicting means guessing what will happen next using clues from the text, the title, and pictures.

How to Predict

  1. Look at the title and any pictures
  2. Read the first few sentences
  3. Think: "What might happen next?"
  4. Keep reading to check your prediction

Read the beginning of this story. What do you think will happen?

Chidi looked at the dark clouds gathering in the sky. The wind began to blow harder. His mother had asked him to bring the clothes from the line before it rained. He looked at his unfinished homework, then back at the window...
