What is Fluent Reading?

Fluent reading means reading smoothly, at a good speed, with expression — like you are talking to someone.

How Punctuation Guides Your Voice

• Period (.) — pause and lower your voice
• Comma (,) — short pause, keep going
• Question mark (?) — raise your voice at the end
• Exclamation mark (!) — show excitement or surprise
• Quotation marks (" ") — change your voice for the character

Practice Passage

Read this aloud with expression:

"Come quickly!" shouted Amara. "The market is closing soon."
Emeka grabbed his bag and ran. "Are we too late?" he asked, breathing hard.
"No," she smiled. "We made it just in time."

Tips

• Read the passage silently first to understand it
• Then read it aloud, following the punctuation
• Record yourself and listen back — do you sound natural?
